Old Buddhist Painted Parables on Furniture

Parables – simple stories used to illustrate a spiritual lesson – are found in every religion.

But this way of painting these stories on furniture is unique.

Was it a devotional form of art for Buddhist monks that eventually found its way into becoming a piece of furniture? Or was painting on furnture directed intentionally so as to  embed these wise stories within the daily life of the householder?

Either way we are left with beautiful works of art from the past:

If only I could possess all that I saw in the beautiful store – if only I could possess the spirit within all the art!
