This coin belt is from an era when gold and silver coins were in use and a handful amounted to a significant sum of money. Used by the men of the nomadic tribes of Western India.
Densely handwoven. Stiff and hard so as to protect the contents.
Probably using the split ply technique that is also used in making camel girths
The string tie has come off on one end and has been tied to the stump.
Age unknown but estimated to be from the 1960s-1970s
