938 Vintage Rabari Embroidery Toran Decor – Textile Art from Gujarat

Superbly Embroidered Toran decorative artwork hung above the main door as a form of welcome in traditional Gujarati homes

Embroidery done on a cotton base. Lapels appear to be made of synthetic material.

Superbly executed extremely dense embroidery that at first-glance could be mistaken for applique or rope-work

Such fine work is no longer made.

Artworks of this quality were usually given as dowry.

Age unknown but estimated to be from the 1950s-1970s

Each is about 27 x 14 inches long (excluding the lapel fringe)
