934 Vintage Pair – Rabari Embroidery Wall Decor Textile Art from Gujarat

Perfect condition pair of Vintage Chaaklas used for ceremonial wall decor in Rabari Tribal homes.

This is from the ‘Vagadia’  subtribe of the Rabari Samaj

The last two photos are close-ups that reveal the superbly executed extremely dense embroidery that at first-glance could be mistaken for applique or rope-work

Such fine work is no longer made.

Artworks of this quality were usually given as dowry.

Each is about 18 x 18 inches

Estimated to be from the 1950s-1960s

Imagine the whole house decorated with work like this! And they actually DO live like that!

Outstanding artwork!
