780 Antique Swat Valley Food Cover Embroidery Textile

Rare form of Textile – Square Bread Cover

(New Photos Added)

Maybe because of the nature of the usage within the household, such pieces do not often reach the collector’s market and so very few are available.

A few that I have seen are refurbished larger textiles that are being used as bread covers.

But this extraordinary piece has embroidered borders on all 4 sides which means that this is the format that it has been originally created as.

The finesse of the Swatti embroidery is unparalleled (except maybe in 916 – which comes close) and it is hard to imagine the size of the needle used for this work!

An outstanding example of textile art!

Estimated to be from the early 1900s

83 cm x 83 cm

This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
