774 Antique Nuristan Shawl Textile – Fine Handspun Handwoven Cotton Base

Antique Nuristan Cotton Shawl

Orange embroidery on handspun cotton.

Cotton is khaddad but finer than the cotton woven for phulkaris of that region

Made of several narrow bands of base cloth held together by crochet which is very unusual

Has pink embroidery along the edges to act as a protective selvedge

Handspun yarn used in the handwoven fabric. Slubs can be seen in the yarn of the white base. Cloth of this type is not made any longer.

Change of embroidery thread color in one corner.
