Tampan Ship cloth
The yarn is cotton and the material feels crisp so it was probably not used much. Since families had many Tampans of this size that were exchanged as gifts during life-transforming ceremonies, it is likely that this was put away and not used much. The overall condition is very good barring a few loose threads and a few holes. It is clean and the vibrant colors have not faded.
It would make a perfect wall artwork.
Estimated to be from the early 1900s
This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections. Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
