Vietnam Ethnic Culture

CULTURE ADDICTS … if you have time for just ONE place in Hoi An, please visit Rehahn’s gallery. It is called a gallery but a better word would be ‘museum’.

The Precious Heritage Art Gallery is the expansive work of photographer Rehahn.

Set in the gorgeous old town, Hoi An, this place can take a few hours to enjoy fully!

Vietnam has dozens of ethnic groups and Rehahn has captured the various facets of each culture.

Presented through costumes, photographs and videos, this is a great primer before journeying to meet the ethnic people in person.

I thought I should try to meet Rehahn. What for one might ask? To pick his mind for more and more. But then I thought that the output of his mind is all laid bare in the gallery already. He has already put out his entire offering without us even asking a single question. So what further gains could be had from an interview with him?

And the answer came to me eventually … (long after I had left Hoi An). Interacting with the real person will allow access to his spirit. And an infusion of that spirit is what excites the next spirit. To go out and do more and more. To hear about his process and challenges and triumphs.

So next time I visit I shall try and find him.

***

Once again, a client I have never met – PD – suggested that I visit this place just a day or two before I was to leave Hoi An after being there for 3 weeks. So the universe is wonderful!
