Counting Passes in the Himalayas

There are hundred of passes or tops in the Himalayas.

A small fraction of these have motorable roads built across them.

And a smaller fraction of that fraction have been visited by me.

And lest I forget (as I regularly do now!), I’ve made this list:

Nathu La (Sikkim) 2011

Khardung La (Ladakh) 2011, 2018

Buddhist Architecture of Ladakh

Chang La 2016CHANGLA

Taklang La 2018 – No Photos….

Hambuting La 2018

HAMBUTING LA

Fotu La 2019, 2018, 2017…

Namik La 2019, 2018, 2017…

NAMIKLA

Some that ones that remain in my “pending list” that have road access and are within the reach of my life are

Rohtang

Zozila

Baralacha

Lachulungla

Pensi La

Marsimik La

Saser La

But then I remember the lines our dear Naina Talwar says to Bunny (in a film).

“No matter how hard you try to do it all, there will always be something that you will leave out…..”

So might as well not pursue the “all” and enjoy the little that one does manage!

Wisdom!

And so we go to bed every night with our dreams – holding on tightly to a few and also, letting go of a few.
