The Maha Kumbh – 400 million people & me

The Maha Kumbh Mela.

Once in 144 years the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn align in a row.

Hindus celebrate the celestial event with the MAHA KUMBH MELA at Prayagraj

Expected number of visitors is 400 million.

And I will be one of them.

Sadhus, Naga babas & austere pilgrims will be taking a dip in the Triveni – the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna & the mythical Saraswati rivers during 6 important celestial events.

Temperature today: 10 degrees – 18 degrees Celsius – it’s going to take a lot of courage to take that dip in the icy cold waters of the rivers!

The Maha Kumbh is a spiritual event.

It’s a cultural event.

It’s an astronomical event.

It’s a mega-social event.

My past travels were filled with deep conversations with strangers from different worlds, trying to understand their model of life. This time I’m curious but also nervous!

Will I have the courage to give myself fully to this experience?

Will I do justice to this once-in-a-lifetime chance?
