Notes on Culture & Antique Art, Ethnic Decor & Vintage Fashion | Wovensouls Art Gallery
The well-balanced aesthetics of the motif, combined with the color combination they have been rendered in, further combined with the range they are seen in in any given Arkilla make these textiles very very appealing.
As usual, I have a desire to wear these. But, our sizes don’t match… I’m 5’2″ and these are 14 feet long. Approximately. The mismatch is hard to ignore – so that desire has been put on hold.
In the meanwhile, We can always enjoy the beauty of the details.
One day when I have the luxury of time, I will pull out all the Arkillas and all the Fulani blankets and lay them on the floor and examine them all in search of one more motif, one more arrangement and one more nuance that I’ve not seen before.
And in this pleasant way I shall pass my time when I have time in abundance.
Dil dhoondta hai phir wohi fursat ke raat din [longing for those days of leisure again] Baithey rahen tassavvur-e-jaana kiye huey [to be able to sit just gazing at my love]
Am sure Gulzar had similar textiles in mind when he wrote these lines!
