Notes on Antique Textiles, Folk Art & Timeless Traditions – Jaina Mishra
Just when I’d thought I’d seen the complete range of the niche textile art from Swat Valley, along comes a piece that challenges that belief and nudges me out of my smug stupor.
In addition to well done Justai work, there is an additional element that awed me and everyone else that has seen it: The ‘self’ embroidery in the field … the thread used for the embroidered motifs is the same as that of the base cloth – hence the name.
Such pieces take away the fatigue of having seen too much, refreshes the eye and brings back the edge of alertness that is so important during hunting (for art) and finally provides the much-needed toppling of the ego!
