Daily Art Fix – Beshir Rug with Ikat Motif

A simple little work of textile art getting its time in the morning sun!

OLD BESHIR RUG WITH IKAT MOTIF

This little piece was most probably woven by Beshir nomads in Turkmenistan.

With a good exchange of materials and ideas with neighboring Uzbekistan and Afghanistan it is no wonder that the Ikat motif seen in this rug is also seen in Ikat weavings from neighboring Uzbekistan.

No doubt there are more elaborately developed examples of this type of rug, the drawing in this is lovely enough to make me put this up on my walls!

And though the rug is usually shown turned 180 degrees – I prefer it in this direction.

(But it was the kilim ends that got my attention!)
