1423 Old Chinese Pictorial Silk Rug Tea House Scene

Small Old Chinese Silk Rug with soft glossy silk

Lovely scene of a Tea House

A wealthy lady with a parasol-bearing maid is seen with another lady with a tiered-tiffin of food ( it could either be that the food gifted by the wealthy lady or that the wealthy lady is buying it from the other woman).

A group of others are seen indoors in the tea house decorated with wooden grills  – watching the incident on the street.

The elements – the costume accessories, the wood grills, the roof, the features, the tiffin –  is infused with ethnic Chinese character.

Very endearing artwork in the handmade silk pile rug.

The knot count is more than 4000 knots per square inch.

Also has the signature ‘chop’ of the artist.

Acquired in 2004 and estimated to be made in late 1900s
