1357 Antique Safavid Persian Painted Wood Panel

Antique Painted panel with superbly saturated colors.

Geometric lattice filled in with flowers and vines  amidst 6 pointed stars in a very pleasing pleasing palette.

The technique of raised or embossed paintwork similar to Ajami has been used in flower petals and other elements

Glossy varnished or lacquered surface.

1800s or earlier.

Solid wood base.

The wood has been on the smaller side to create channels – this was probably a part of a larger construction originally.

In that region, decorated wooden furnishings were common in wealthy homes and owners believed in creating ‘heaven’ in their homes through the extensive use of art.

This panel therefore may have been a part of a decorated room or may have been part of a Safavid door.

72 x 86 cm – the size of a small window

Paint has chipped in a few places as can be seen in the photos.
