1316 Antique Caucasian Verneh Shaddah Fragment w Green – 1800s or earlier – Gallery-2

Valuable Verneh Sumak Rug flatweave with an AMAZING green & black & white checkerboard selvedge

Verneh a handmade Caucasian floor covering that was formerly termed a sileh.

Verné rugs are thought to have been woven around the town of Jebrail (Dzhebrail) in the Karabagh district of southern Azerbaijan.

The condition of this rug is clearly imperfect. Has worn areas and holes and today is a ‘fragment’

The blue / green border and selvedge are the aspects that make this piece

5 X 7.7 feet

Estimated to be woven in the early 1800s

A strong candidate for going up on my walls when I settle down!

Therefore the condition must be assumed to be “not” perfect. More photos of such imperfections will be provided on request.
