1287 Rare Antique Tibetan Buddhist Silver Ghau with Bone Inlay

Large Silver hand crafted Ghau box from Tibet

Meant to be worn on the waist belt as a spiritual ornament

Inlaid with superbly carved Buddha made from bone

Has a copper back.

Contains a few grains of dried leaves (possibly juniper) considered to be auspicious

While silver ghaus are not too uncommon, ones with such bone inlay work are rare.

Estimated to be from the early 1900s

13 X 14 X 4cm

History of this piece: Tibetan pilgrims offer these prayer wheels at monasteries as a token of worship. These offerings are then auctioned sometimes. This and the other prayer wheel 1288 and a few other items were acquired in such an auction.
