The Jehangir Spinel

Owned and bequeathed by Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb this amazing Spinel is now in the  Victoria & Albert museum in London.

Surprisingly it has been described by the V&A as the “Carew” spinel.

How it reached Lady Carew will be interesting to find out …

But naming it after anyone other than the 3 mughal emperors will probably appear absurd to most especially since the names of the original owners are clearly inscribed on the gem!
