A hilltribe sash, acquired long ago from Northern Thailand was recently retrieved from the bottom of a trunk full of textiles treasures…

And a perfectly done hand-sown hem!

The craft is a simple stitch but the motifs drawn are of unique cultural features that are characteristic of the entire region….

What did they mean in this particular sash? Protection? Fertility?
