Notes on Culture & Antique Art, Ethnic Decor & Vintage Fashion | Wovensouls Art Gallery
In Afghanistan, decorations used as symbols of auspiciousness are made out of cloves!!
Who in my world would have thought of such a use for a clove or conversely when planning to make a decoration who would have thought of employing a clove!!!
If we were to list out all the possible materials ever used all over the world for decoration, we might find every single natural material on that list though no single culture is likely to do so. If collective ideation & aggregation were possible our world might look totally different!
Diversity is so delightful!!

Those are so gorgeous. Could you please say something about how the cloves are connected? Are they pierced? Tied? They must smell wonderful. Thank you!
Exotic spices were very highly valued, even used as currency, and also the reason the early sea explorers set out in search of their source. These decorations could indeed represent prosperity.
Thanks Kristine! I did not know about their use as currency (beyond barter-trading). So interesting!
Jennifer, these are strung through. Pierced. Will add a close-up photo.
