Art in Architecture – The Magnificent Blue Mosque of Istanbul

The Sultan Ahmet Mosque or Blue Mosque is stunning not only because of the Blue tiled interiors that give it its other name, but also because of the dome structure that is unique.

Built in the early 1600s, by a student of Sinan a revolutionary architect, this is still used actively for worship.

This was the first mosque I have entered and I spent an hour sitting in the magnificent halls absorbing the atmosphore.

A few pictures.

I was under the impression for years that non-muslims and women aren’t allowed inside mosques.

Clearly, I was wrong!
