The Sea Shell Museum – Viewing the world through the Awe of Another!

Picking up shells along the beach is something we all do. Every shell is unique and they fascinate all of us at least for a few moments. And then we move on, thinking about life, the universe and everything else.

But some people remain fascinated by seashells forever.

Maybe it is because the sea around them is so fantastic that they spend more hours in the water. Or maybe that area offers a greater diversity of shells and therefore the viewer’s curiosity about shells is fueled with each new find.

Whatever the circumstances may have been, collecting sea shells became a lifetime passion for one. And eventually the collection became so large and diverse that it warranted the establishment of a museum: The Sea Shell Museum of Phuket.

Although I do not share the collector’s passion for shells [vice versa too, I am sure]  I came away from his museum impressed by his commitment to his passion.

And by  two of the pieces on display:

1. The ONLY shell of a particular type in which the direction of the spiral is anti-clockwise.

2. The largest natural pearl.

A few pictures of the museum:

The largest natural pearl found displayed inside the mouth of a crystal dragon in line with the Chinese symbolism:

When my own eyes fail, seeing through the eyes of others, shows me how amazing the world can be!
