1668 Handwoven Silk Assamese Scarf – Recently Made

Beautiful Silk scarf / shawl from Assam in North East India.

White field with supplementary thread weaving in two shades of blue on the ends and in the field.

Superfine nuni silk with motifs that are usually found on eri silk.

The ends are finished traditionally with the loose threads tied into knots to form a fringe.

Assam weavings are rarely seen outside Assam as the production is very limited and all the production gets consumed in the home state itself.

The few that reach other markets are among the most expensive handlooms available in India.

Very elegant. Would make a perfect gift.

Made by an awarded masterweaver.

Less than 10 years old but will certainly be a treasured heirloom saved for the future generations.

Minor spots to be expected as this is a light shade and handled extensively during the hand weaving process.
