Ceremonial Textile from the Shia Community of Pakistan / Afghanistan

Silvery white silk on a cotton-mix base cloth

The front and back of the textile display identical embroidery and are almost indistinguishable from each other.

Such work is very very rare

Edges have been finished with a colorful beaded thread.

Created on two panels that have then been stitched together along the longitudinal spine.

Estimated to be from the 1930s-1950s

Size 65 x 65 inches

This item has spent a lifetime being used for the purpose of its creation with the original artist/user. Signs of this life lived heartily may be present on the piece in the form of stains, thread loss, loose threads, holes, tears, color run and other imperfections.
